L-Theanine, Magnesium Glycinate, and nooLVL: What Is in UNFOG and Why
By the UNFOG Team · 6 min read
The short answer
UNFOG contains three functional ingredients: L-Theanine, an amino acid from tea studied for relaxed, calm attention; Magnesium Glycinate, a well-absorbed form of magnesium, a mineral involved in hundreds of processes in the body including normal nerve and muscle function; and nooLVL, a patented form of inositol-stabilized arginine silicate studied in healthy adults, including esports players, for measures of cognitive performance.
L-Theanine
L-Theanine is an amino acid found naturally in tea leaves. It is one of the most studied calm-focus compounds: research has examined its effects on stress and on attention, and it is known for promoting relaxation without causing drowsiness.
A 2019 randomized trial published in Nutrients examined L-Theanine in healthy adults under stress, and earlier work in the Asia Pacific Journal of Clinical Nutrition looked at L-Theanine and attention-related brain activity. That research base is why it shows up in so many focus formulas.
Magnesium Glycinate
Magnesium is an essential mineral involved in hundreds of biochemical reactions, including normal nerve and muscle function and energy production. The NIH Office of Dietary Supplements notes that many adults in the United States get less magnesium than recommended from food alone.
Magnesium Glycinate is magnesium bound to the amino acid glycine. It is commonly chosen because it is gentle on the stomach and well absorbed compared with some other forms.
nooLVL
nooLVL is a patented ingredient from Nutrition21: inositol-stabilized arginine silicate. It has been studied in healthy adults, including esports gamers, for measures such as reaction time and cognitive performance during demanding tasks.
It is non-stimulant, which is exactly why it fits a caffeine-free formula.
An honest note
Ingredient research is done on the ingredients themselves, often at specific doses in controlled settings. That research is why we chose these ingredients, but it does not mean UNFOG treats, cures, or prevents anything. UNFOG is a beverage, not a medicine.
